A CULTURAL day was held to mark the end of a four-year project for Tamil families.

Parents who originate from Sri Lanka have been taking classes at Downderry School to learn IT and other skills to help them find work.

They have also been supporting their children at the school in Downderry Road, Downham, and some are now planning to become teaching assistants thanks to the scheme.

The 50 families who took part in the project enjoyed Sri Lankan food and made educational games and toys during the cultural day on October 13.

Community education project worker Marina Shaftoe said: "We have done a lot of work in the four years and it is fantastic to be able to help.

"I think it is extremely important for the Tamil families to participate in the school."
