BROMLEY Council is integrating public health into its work, it says, well ahead of schedule.

The Health and Social Care act 2012 - one of departing health secretary Andrew Lansley's NHS reforms - aims to promote greater accountability by councils before April next year.

Health information ranging from immunisation to NHS checks from living with a disability to infection prevention has been launched on MyLife, the council’s adult social care website.

The aim is to ensure information is more available to the public and also health professionals.

"From the outset we have been determined to seize this exciting opportunity to develop the most effective way to deliver public health for the people of Bromley," said Bromley executive councillor Graham Arthur.

"For many years a key priority for the council has been supporting people to be as independent as possible and we always saw our public health role as part of this approach.

"This includes ensuring people can get the right information, advice and guidance about health and wellbeing through our website."

A Bromley Health and Wellbeing Board has identified number of health priorities including: diabetes, dementia, hypertension, obesity and anxiety and depression.

Bromley Council says it is continuing to work how these needs will be met though.
