Thrifty, creative women are popping up – along with a travelling cinema – to teach people how to turn trash into treasure.
Upcycling geniuses Skip Sisters will be joining Thelittlegreenscreen at Grow Mayow Community Garden in Sydenham on Sunday, September 9.
The artistic group will be holding a free, family friendly workshop on transforming discarded items into unique knick knacks and accessories between 3pm and 5pm.
Pizza, popcorn and refreshments will be available.
And from 7.30pm, adults will be invited to drink Pimms and watch documentary Garbage Warrior, about architect Michael Reynolds’ dream of changing the world with radically sustainable housing.
Erika Sager, founder of the pop-up cinema, said: “These are films that you want to watch with other people.
“They are inspiring.
“You want to talk about them afterwards, to do something, not sit alone in your living room.
“Garbage Warrior is a film about using waste materials to create something of greater social and environmental value.
“It makes you want to drop everything and start building.”
Thelittlegreenscreen received funding to be part of Showtime (a series of free outdoor events presented by the Mayor of London), which is supported by the National Lottery.
Trees and Trash will be the second event supported by the grant.
