WITH the return to school fast approaching, there was late summer fun to be had at the Bexley and Welling Round Table donkey derby.

Held for the first time in Danson Park, the afternoon of fun and games saw more than 2,000 people stop to watch the hilarious donkey race antics on Sunday (September 2).

With seven donkeys competing in each of the seven races, the amateur jockeys from Timbertop riding school in Sidcup made sure there was lots of competition and unpredictable results.

Away from the race track, youngsters had the opportunity to ride donkeys at a slower pace while the beer tent proved popular with the adults.

Bexley Round Table Chairman Dean Kemp said: “We didn’t actually except to make a profit today as we just stage this event for the community.

“However, on first inspection it would appear there is a healthy sum of money left over which will go to the Round Table Charitable trust and then be used for local worthy causes.”

The charity will now look ahead to their next big fundraiser, the Danson Park fireworks on November 3.

Bexley and Welling Round Table is a social organisation that organises community events.
