A GARDEN society will hold its very own Diamond Jubilee celebration this summer.
Eltham and Avery Hill Gardens Society will mark its 60th year with a flower, fruit and vegetable show to be held on September 8 at St Mary's Primary School, Glenure Road, Eltham.
Members have thanked founding chairman Charles Strangwige for his 60 years of service by naming an annual challenge cup after him for the best in show chrysanthemum exhibit, which will be awarded for the first time this year.
Mr Strangwige said: "When I helped to found the society in 1952 I had no idea that it would still be going strong 60 years later and we'd celebrate our Diamond Jubilee at the same time as Queen Elizabeth.
"I hope as many people as possible will join in our celebrations by coming along."
