RECYCLED bikes have been used to create an art installation on the roof of the Civic Centre in Gravesend.
Commissioned by Kent County Council, the reCyculture project has been designed to tie in with the Paralympic cycling at Brands Hatch and involves a serious of sculptures and virtual installations across the county.
In Gravesend, 150 people attended a two-day workshop at the Cyclopark in July to create the brightly-coloured artwork from disused bikes which have been installed above the entrance to the council building until the end of September.
Stories, thoughts and ideas about cycling and bikes were also collected to be made into poems, films and web pages.
Gravesham Council’s cabinet member for business and partnerships, Councillor Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi said: “We are very excited to be part of this project, especially in view of Gravesham’s close proximity to Brands Hatch and the Paralympic Cycling events being held there.”
