A THAMESMEAD man who dialled 999 after witnessing drug abuse outside his house is angry police never showed up to investigate.

Peter Crowhurst called police at around 8pm on a Saturday night after seeing two men carry out what he believes was a drug deal outside his home in Glimpsing Green.

The 66-year-old said: "My interest was drawn to two individuals squatting down and playing with my cat just outside my garden gate.

"I looked at them and thought 'I don’t know who they are'.

"One then produced his wallet and the other one pulled out a credit card and a little package.

"After this, one of them proceeded to sniff the stuff from the back of the credit card up his nose with a tube."

Mr Crowhurst says half an hour later, one of the two men appeared again and carried out the same act across the road from his house.

After witnessing the first alleged drug deal on August 18, Mr Crowhurst called emergency services and reported what he had seen.

However, despite being given a crime reference number and passing the details to the assistant at the end of the phone, a police officer never arrived to investigate further.

Mr Crowhurst questioned: "What I want to know is what was going on in the borough that used all the police resources on this Saturday night?

"I understand calls have to be prioritised but who does the prioritising and on what basis?"

A Bexley police spokesman said: "Any allegation of crime is taken seriously and it is fully investigated.

"There are times when the public call in with information and we are most grateful for doing so, but they will not know what is going on in the background.

"Every single time we get information from people it builds a picture of what is happening in that particular area - this enables us to direct police resources to emerging problems."
