A PASSIONATE fitness instructor is on a mission to help people achieve their dream bodies with exciting new classes.

Kieran McCartney is launching Fitness Pilates lessons in Bexleyheath and Plumstead from September 10, to precede high-energy Zumba workouts – a double whammy sure to shrink bums and waistlines.

The 28-year-old, who has taught Zumba for two years and worked in the fitness industry for nearly a decade, has just qualified as a Fitness Pilates trainer.

He said: “I love all my Zumba ladies but I needed something which would complement the classes.
“There’s really nowhere else in this area doing both, one after the other.

“By doing Pilates first they should have more body awareness for Zumba.”

Kieran’s new weekly classes will be held at 7.15pm on Mondays at St Catherine’s Catholic School for Girls in Bexleyheath, at 7pm at Wesley Hall Methodist Church in Plumstead on Tuesdays and from 8.45am at Pantiles Methodist Church in Bexleyheath.

He added: “People can come along just to do Pilates.

“But obviously by doing both they are exercising more.

“I always keep up to date with the industry and I’m at a time in my career now, with Pilates, where I will be able to train people in more depth.

“I love the fact I get to work with such an array of different people and everyone learns differently.”

Fitness Pilates is a challenging yet safe exercise which promotes a balanced body, a longer and leaner toned shape, superb posture, a flat stomach and strong back.

It can also help with flexibility and improves balance and coordination without producing over developed or bulky muscles.

Kieran said: “It really helps with everyday life, especially with posture and core muscles.

“It leans you out and makes you more aware of your body- I trialled it with a few of my Zumba ladies and they loved it.

“People have time to listen to what I’m saying and I have time to correct them – we’ll do it before Zumba to make sure everyone’s not all sweaty for Pilates.”

Although Kieran welcomes beginners to the classes, he says people will need to be relatively fit to take part.

“People need to be able bodied.” He added.

“You’ll be moving around, having to hold different positions like planking, and you’ll be shaking.”

For people looking to tighten up fast, Kieran also runs a six-week long inch loss boot camp.

For an extra £15 on top of the £37.50 monthly pass to all classes, he combines nutrition advice and detox plans with intensely energetic Zumba.

“One of the girls lost 30 inches in six weeks.” Kieran told us.

“The results are really good – it’s very rewarding.”

Without a monthly pass, the 45-minute classes cost £5 each to attend and Kieran offers £1 off to Weight Watchers and Slimming World members and NHS employees.

A keen fundraiser, he is also inviting fitness fanatics to join his four hour long Aerobathon on Saturday September 29 and a nonstop four hour Zumbathon on November 24, both to raise cash for Macmillan Cancer Support.
