BRITISH Transport Police (BTP) detectives are appealing for information after a Longfield woman was sexually assaulted on a train.
The assault took place on May 3 just after 8pm when the 46-year-old victim was approached by a man, who had boarded the train at Sittingbourne.
The man, who appeared to have been drinking heavily, tried to strike up a conversation with the woman before attempting to kiss her.
When the victim pulled away in disgust he then touched her indecently before leaving the train at Rainham.
The victim continued on the train to Longfield before reporting the incident to staff, who alerted police.
Investigators have issued CCTV images of a man they want to talk to in connection with the incident
Officers have followed a number of avenues of enquiry as part of their investigation into the incident, including circulating the images on police intelligence systems and to local neighbourhood policing teams, but to no avail so far.
Investigating officer Detective Constable Bob Gee said: "The man’s actions were completely unacceptable.
"Although incidents like this are rare on the rail network, this was clearly a very frightening and upsetting ordeal for the victim and we’ll do all we can to arrest the person responsible.
"As part of our investigation we’ve issued CCTV of a man we want to speak to in connection with this incident and are asking for the public’s help to name him.
"If you think you recognise this man, please contact us."
