FALCONWOOD and District Horticultural Society has celebrated its 75th annual flower, fruit and vegetable show.
There were 90 classes, including photography, cake making, needlecraft and children’s classes as well as the traditional flower and vegetable classes.
Visitors enjoyed cream teas at the Falconwood Community Centre, in The Green off Hook Lane, Welling, while cups were presented to winners by Mayor of Bexley Councillor Alan Downing.
Tomatoes were in short supply this year whereas runner beans produced a bumper number of entries and flower arranging had an increase in the number of entrants.
Winners included Bill Cross who received the new Diamond Jubilee Trophy for the best fuchsia and John Wright who won the Raynor Trophy for the best potatoes.
Cyril Turner was awarded the National Dahlia Societies Silver Medal for the best Dahlia bloom while 10-year-old Alfie Wallace won the Novice Cup and became children’s champion with several entries.
