A LEWISHAM kebab house is challenging Gordon Ramsay to be the capital's culinary king, according to a website.
Meze Mangal in Lewisham Way is currently ranked the seventh best restaurant in the whole of London according to Trip Advisor, which scores venues according to customer feedback.
With a 95 per cent approval rating the much-loved Turkish restaurant, one of the borough's hidden gems, is ahead of places like The Ritz and Marcus Wareing at the Berkeley.
It is only beaten by big - and expensive - names like Ramsay's Petrus, The Ledbury and Le Gavroche.
Providing takeaway and sit-down service, Meze Mangal is a firm local favourite, serving staples like shish kebabs along with more adventurous Turkish fare and meze dishes.
Manager Sahin Gok said the restaurant has actually peaked at number three on the website, and put its success down to making everything fresh, using a woodfire oven and barbeque in the middle of the restaurant.
He said: “It’s not really surprising actually. It’s years of experience and hard working by me and my staff.”
