A KNIFE-WIELDING teenage rioter who threw bricks at police and robbed a fried chicken shop during last summer's disorder is facing jail.

Alexander Elliot-Joahill was arrested after being found in the car of Orpington student Laura Johnson on August 9 last year at Greenwich Shopping Park.

The 19-year-old, of Baring Road, Lee, was convicted of GBH with intent at Inner London Crown Court on August 17.

Jurors heard he threw bricks at a police car in Lewisham High Street containing two traffic officers, hitting one in the head and causing lacerations to her face and head plus cuts from flying glass.

He had earlier pleaded guilty to possessing an offensive weapon, violent disorder, robbery of Favorite Fried Chicken in Catford Road, and burglary of Blackheath Antiques in Lewisham High Street.

And at hearings last year he admitted handling stolen goods from Curry's, Halfords and PC World in Charlton plus burglaries at Comet in Greenwich and the BP garage in Woolwich Road.

He was remanded in custody for sentencing on September 20.

Detective Constable Joe Maugham, from Operation Withern, which is investigating crimes during the riots, said: "Elliot-Joahill and those arrested with him went out on the evening of 8 August with the intention of stealing from local stores and joining in the mass disorder and looting.

"We can only be thankful that his violent and reckless attack on an officer with a brick did not cause far more serious injury."

He added: "We are grateful for all the help received and would like to encourage people to continue to assist us and provide us with information which may be pivotal to bringing criminals to justice."
