ADAM Gemili is turning his attention to racing 200m as he takes to the track in his first major competition since the Olympics .

He will line-up alongside Olympic 100m finalists Ryan Bailey and Churandy Martina as well as relay teammate Christian Malcolm at the Aviva Birmingham Grand Prix on August 26.

The former Dartford Grammar School pupil made it to the semi-finals of the 100m at the Olympics, missing the final by just four hundredths of a second, having only turned his attention to athletics in January.

Looking back at London 2012, the 18-year-old said: “The Olympics was an amazing experience for me.

“I never thought in my wildest dreams in eight-months, I would go from playing non-league football to representing my country in the biggest sporting event in the world.”

Although Adam’s performance has been outstanding, he is not getting ahead of himself and has shown excitement at the thought of competing in the Rio 2016 Olympics.

“To compete in front of a capacity home crowd against the best athletes in the world gave me a real taste of what's to come in the next few years.

“To walk out to the roars of 80,000 people cheering you on is something I'll never forget.”

The Blackheath and Bromley Harriers sprinter said: “This will give me another opportunity to race against some of the guys I went up against in the Olympic Games, and this is something I’m relishing.”

“I'm really looking forward to walking out in front of another sell-out crowd in Birmingham and running a strong 200m.”

The 200m is a new experience for Gemili but after running a quick 20.61 seconds in June, he is looking to competing in the more long-distance event.

He added: “There are going to be some 200m specialists out on the track, but I am keen to show that I can make that transition from the 100m and compete against the best.”

Team GB Olympic gold medalists including Mo Farah and Greg Rutherford will also compete in the competition.
