MOTORISTS in Gravesend will be able to pay for parking with their mobile phones later this year, as part of a borough-wide parking revamp.
Gravesham Borough Council will also upgrade the 42 pay-by-coin machines in their car parks, installing new solar-powered machines.
Drivers using the new phone parking system will receive text message warnings when their time in the car park is due to run out.
It will also be possible to top up the length of your stay in a council car park without returning to the car.
Council leader Councillor John Burden said: “We’re taking the opportunity to modernise our parking payment methods and get a new system in place to help people avoid fines.
“The council has heard complaints from drivers about the old machines and we have fast-tracked the introduction of a pay-by-mobile system.
“The competitive tender process for the new machines will be done as soon as possible.”
