NEARLY a month on from the murder of pensioner Pamela Wheeler in Thamesmead, detectives are re-appealing for information.
Officers will be at the scene again tomorrow (August 16) speaking to members of the public and urging possible witnesses to come forward.
Police were called at 6.25pm on July 22, after Mrs Wheeler was found collapsed and bound at her home in Newacres Road.
The 76-year-old was found with her wrists and ankles tied and was pronounced dead at the scene.
A post-mortem examination at Greenwich Mortuary on July 24 did not establish a formal cause of death.
Officers await the results of further tests.
An inquest was opened and adjourned at Southwark Coroner's court yesterday (August 14).
Officers now believe Mrs Wheeler was attacked at her home at some point between the evening of July 19, and the following morning, July 20.
The last confirmed sighting of Mrs Wheeler was between 6.30pm and 7pm on July 19 walking away from her home address.
Officers have already delivered 1,500 leaflets in the Thamesmead West area and further leaflet drops will take place tomorrow.
Two separate witnesses have described two males acting suspiciously on the evening of July 19, after they were seen near to a car at the front of the victim's house.
Detectives also want to speak to a woman seen with Mrs Wheeler between 1.15pm and 1.20pm on that same day.
The two women were seen by witnesses in Battery Road, Thamesmead, walking towards Tesco.
She is described as white, aged over 50, with blonde or white hair of a similar style to Mrs Wheeler's.
They were walking together with a shopping trolley between them but it was unclear who was pushing it.
Mrs Wheeler was well known in the community and a neighbour, who did not wish to be named, said: "This has been a great shock to all of us.
"Pam was a vulnerable 76-year-old lady, a generous lady and well known in the area for her love of animals.
"I cannot believe that someone could commit a cold blooded murder like this.
"Whoever did this has to be caught so no-one else will have to suffer like Pam did again."
Investigating officer Detective Chief Inspector Graeme Gwyn, of the Homicide and Serious Crime Command, said: "I am keen to speak to witnesses who saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area on Thursday 19 or Friday the 20 July to come forward and speak to us.
"She suffered a horrific and violent death and was tied at the ankles and wrists in her own home.
"I want to urge anyone with any information to make contact with us.
"I would also urge the woman believed to be seen with Pam on the last day she was seen to contact police immediately as she may hold valuable information as to what happened to her as well as her movements that day."
Anyone with information should call the incident room at Lewisham on 020 8721 4805 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
There has been no arrest at present.
