BROMLEY police have given advice on avoiding “Facebook gatecrashers” at parties following an incident in Chislehurst.
The 18th birthday party, which was advertised on the social media site, had to be broken up by police on August 4.
Fifty friends were originally invited to the event in Chislehurst Road but over 200 people turned up.
Several people subsequently posted the location on Twitter.
One young man was taken to hospital after receiving a bloodied nose and a cut to his head.
Police advice for party planners is that you should be careful with technology whether it is Facebook, Twitter or another social networking platform.
Once people get inside a party they can text their friends the address and the word spreads very quickly.
For those who are planning an even on Facebook, it is recommended that it should be on private invite only.
The police also recommended parents ask specific questions if they are suspicious about their children’s plans.
For example, they could ask “how did you hear about the party?” or “do you actually know the person hosting it?”
A spokesman for Bromley Police said: “Call the house, ask questions. Use and trust your intuition and instincts.”
He also advised that parents are going away they should tell a neighbour or responsible adult to keep an eye on things and to call the police if they see something suspicious.
Have you ever had your party gatecrashed after posting the event on social media? If so, call the news desk on 01689 885721.
