EVENTS at the Greenwich Peninsula Festival were cancelled due to a "disappointing" turn-out from the public, say organisers.
There were high hopes for the Dutch-roots festival of music, culture and international business which was pledged £50k of council funds.
But festival bosses pulled the plug on many of the events set for last week leaving a massively-scaled back timetable without immediate explanation.
A Greenwich Peninsula festival spokesman has now told News Shopper: "We are proud Greenwich is one of the few boroughs that has not one, but two privately funded parallel events; Peninsula Festival and The Greenwich Comedy Festival at the ORNC.
"The turnout from the public has been disappointing to all events resulting in the premature closure of many across the country.
"It also meant a cancellation of a number of our events, because of disappointing ticket sales."
He added that 20,000 festival-goers had visited the site and events that went well included the Eastern Electrics on August 4 and an I Love Jamaica day on Sunday [Aug 12].
The overall financial toll of the festival is still unknown and organisers said they could not yet comment.
