PEOPLE in London and the South East have been revealed as having different tastes to the rest of the country when it comes to naming babies.
While Harry and Amelia were the most popular first names given to children born in England and Wales in 2011, replacing Oliver and Olivia, it was a different story in the regions for the capital and surrounding area.
For London, the names Daniel and Isabella took the spots, according to figures from the Office for National Statistics .
Parents in the South East followed the national trend for boys’ names, with Harry at number one, but on the girls’ rankings it was Lily which was most popular.
Oliver was the second most popular boys’ name in London, followed by Muhammad and James.
The Souoth East also had Oliver at number two, then Jack and Charlie.
For girls’ names, Olivia was second most popular in London followed by Amelia and Sophia.
The choices of South East parents put Amelia at number two then Olivia and Jessica.
The national trends saw Jacob replace George in the top 10 most popular names for baby boys, climbing five places from number 12 to number 7.
Ava and Isabella replaced Evie and Chloe in the top 10 most popular names for baby girls, both climbing two places from numbers 11 and 12 to numbers 9 and 10.
New entries and high climbers on the boys’ top 100 included Tommy, Blake, Jenson and Dexter.
For girls’ names, popular newcomers and high risers were Bella, Willow, Eliza and Evelyn.
