A CARE home in Bickley embraced the Olympics by holding its own sports day including wheelchair egg and spoon races and Zimmer frame races.

The Queen Elizabeth House Care Home, in Southborough Road, held its own Olympic Going for Gold Day.

An opening ceremony included a procession of drums and flag bearers walking down Lime Close.

The games were officially opened by a resident cutting a gold ribbon at the front of the home and the singing of the national anthem.

Relatives awarded gold coins to the winners.

Manager of the home, Asvinta Thakkar, said: “The whole day was fun and none of the eggs got broken!

“It is the first time this has been done. There was real competition.”
The residents now look forward to attending the Paralympic Games.
