GREENHITHE homeowners are celebrating after plans for a new marina appear to have finally sunk.

In April News Shopper revealed that project planner Greenhithe Marina Management LLP (GMMLLP) was once again plotting to build a marina complex in Greenhithe High Street despite previous attempts being overwhelmingly rejected by both residents and councillors.

A message was posted on The Greenhithe Marina Residents Association Blog, which supports the project, saying new plans for the marina were being drawn up and a new management team had been appointed.

A pre-planning application consultation with Swanscombe and Greenhithe residents soon followed.

But Companies House, which keeps a register of all companies across the UK, has confirmed that GMMLLP has requested to be "struck off" as it is closing the company.

Secretary of Greenhithe Community Group, Tim Carrington, was among those who opposed the plans.

Mr Carrington, of Greenhithe High Street, said: "We sense the end of this whole debacle and a weight has been lifted off the community of Greenhithe village."

Community group chairman, Peter Harman, added: "News of the demise of Greenhithe Marina (Management) LLP is welcomed by the residents of Greenhithe.

"The vast majority of Greenhithe's residents vehemently opposed the developer's inappropriate plans for a 200 berth marina and they can now be assured that the developer has called it a day.

"The company's proposed marina was inappropriate and had no parking facilities in an already congested and narrow High Street."

Last year the Planning Inspectorate rejected plans for a 200 berth marina with a fuel pontoon and clubhouse.

The application attracted dozens of letters of objection while campaigners also collected a 214-signature petition against the plans.

This came after Dartford Council had already rejected similar proposals in 2010 and 2008.

News Shopper approached GMMLLP for a comment but received no response.
