AN ABBEY Wood teenager who carried the flame has helped spread the Olympic spirit to Wilmington.
Joseph Kelly, of Glen View, was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2009 and is now in remission.
The 14-year-old, who attends Beths Grammar School, carried the torch through Dagenham in the relay on July 22.
Joseph, who is a keen golfer, took the torch to an open day at Birchwood Park Golf Centre, in Birchwood Road, Wilmington, to raise money for Cherished Memories.
The charity organises special days of family bonding for life-limited disabled children from hospices.
General manager of the golf centre, Graham Rolland, said: "Joseph is an exceptional child, showing tremendous bravery throughout his illness and playing as much golf as he can to aid his recovery.
"It was lovely of him to bring the torch down to the open day and we were only too happy to help him raise as much money as possible for Cherished Memories."
