A PERSONAL best dressage score from William Fox-Pitt on his horse Lionheart cemented third place for the British team ahead of the Eventing cross country phase at Greenwich Park.
Organisers are expecting around 50,000 people to Greenwich for the key event today, with added pressure on the transport system making it the busiest day of the Games.
Fox-Pitt, the world number one, scored 44.10 penalties to leave GB 7.9 penalties shy of leaders Germany and 4.9 penalties behind second-placed Australia.
The 43-year-old was full of praise for his young mount, and said he expects his performances to improve further as the competition progresses.
He said: “At 10 years old Lionheart is a lot younger than some of the other horses, and this is his first championship.
“Hopefully he’s going to come into his own the next couple of days and that’s why he’s here. He’s in the toughest company in the world and not far off the lead, so we’re certainly hoping things go our way.”
