A MAN who indecently touched and tried to kiss an 18-year-old girl in Dartford has been sentenced.
Matthew Williams, 22, on Munford Drive in Swanscombe, approached the teenager while she was walking her dog in Willow Park, Chatsworth Road, on April 29 last year.
Although the girl was not harmed by the attack, she was left severely shaken.
Police traced Williams after they issued an e-fit in July last year of a man they wished to speak with in connection to the incident.
Williams pleaded guilty to sexual assault, and a separate charge of possessing herbal cannabis, when he appeared at Dartford Magistrates Court on July 18.
Magistrates handed him a three-year community order, ordered him to complete 200 hours unpaid work as well as pay £500 in compensation to his victim and £500 in court costs.
He must also sign the sex offenders register for five years and take part in the Thames Valley Sex Offenders programme for 36 months.
No separate charge was brought against him for possession of herbal cannabis.
Investigating officer, Detective Constable Gerry King, said: “Williams has shown no remorse after subjecting this young woman to a terrifying ordeal.
“I must commend her bravery and I hope today's sentence will help her begin to move on from this chapter of her life.
“We would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to the media and members of the public for helping us identify Williams.
“As a community, we have put him before the courts to face justice for his actions.”
