Team GB got a pre-Games boost yesterday when Greenwich boy Dan Clark along with Mike Lenzly passed final fitness tests. Injuries had posed question marks ahead of Sunday’s first round game against Russia.
Starting guard Lenzly suffered a calf tear during last week’s friendly against basketball giants USA, while Clark suffered an ankle sprain playing against Tunisia at the weekend.
Today was marked as the last day for changes to the team list if one or both of the players were ruled out, but both were deemed fit for Sunday’s Olympic opener against the Russians.
GB Basketball Team Leader Chris Spice said: “Thanks to some outstanding work by our medical team at our dedicated training base both Dan and Mike have been cleared to compete in the Olympics.
“Both players have worked tirelessly on their rehabilitation and should be congratulated on their efforts,” he added.
