A 57-YEAR-OLD woman will complete a 169km fundraising walk - 1km for every day of her grandson's life.
Archie King-Lodge was born on September 7 last year - nine weeks premature with his organs on the outside of his body and unable to breathe without a ventilator - and died on February 23.
His grandmother Tina Mansell will take on the 169km challenge on August 12 with her 43-year-old colleague Andy Breeden.
The duo, who both work for London Ambulance Service, will travel from Newbridge to Hampton Court over four days and hope to raise around £5,000.
Mrs Mansell, of Mill Place, Crayford, said: "When Archie was born and when he died you feel absolutely devastated and a little bit helpless because it's a baby, you feel lost.
"It was my team mate who said 'Do you want to do something to make you feel helpful?' That's when we came up with the idea."
She added: "It's going to be hard going and a little bit scary but the determination to do it and raise the money is second to none.
"With Archie in mind it will get us through."
Cash raised will be donated to the special care baby unit at The Heath University of Wales hospital, which cared for Archie.
Mrs Mansell said: "The staff there were amazing and not only did their best for Archie but were a great support to the family throughout this sad time especially on Archie's final day with us."
