Kay Scarley, 55, Erith
Why this design?
My son decided to get a tattoo and at first I was very unhappy with the idea.
Eventually I conceded on the understanding I could go along and help choose the design to ensure he did not end up with something he may regret.
It was whilst at the tattoo studio I began talking to the tattoo artist and looking through his designs.
I then became very interested in one for myself but I could not see a design I really liked.
After an in depth conversation (and a couple of visits) the artist actually designed one uniquely for me, although it ended up much bigger than I imagined.
The design is tribal inspired with an orchid.
I then decided to go without telling anyone - to top it all off my son never did get his tattoo.
How much did it cost?
£55 – that was 10 years ago.
Did it hurt?
Yes, it hurt more than I imagined but I am a bit of a wuss.
What did your friends say?
Despite being 45 years old at the time, I told my mum it was semi permanent and would only last a couple of years.
My children thought it was quite a cool thing to do but my other family and friends thought I was a bit nuts.
They were worried I would regret it, but I can say I never have.
Do you have any more?
No.
I’d never say never to having more.
Maybe I’ll go with my grandson next time.
