DARTFORD Council leader Jeremy Kite has thrown his support behind the British Judo team, who are currently training for the Olympics at Dartford Judo Club.
Councillor Kite presented the team with cards signed by schoolchildren from Dartford as they took a break from their hectic training schedule.
He said: “It’s fantastic Dartford Judo Club has been involved in the Olympics and Paralympics in this way.
“When we built the Judo Centre, we hoped it would be used in preparation for future Olympic events and our dreams have come true.
“It would be the icing on the cake if the Judo team win some medals so we’re wishing them all the luck in the world.”
The £4.5 million judo club, in Cotton Lane, was opened in March 2006 by Princess Anne and was the first purpose-built training centre to meet Olympic training standards.
Judo events at London 2012 are some of the first to be held, beginning on July 28 and running until August 3.
