BEXLEY Council’s leader has said everyone in the borough can be "justifiably proud" to have shown "Bexley off to the world in such a positive light" when the Olympic torch visited.
Over 100,000 people came to see the torch relay which arrived at Erith Yacht Club on Sunday morning, July 22, and made its way on an eight-mile trip through the borough before being carried into Danson Park, Welling, by former undisputed World heavyweight boxing champion Lennox Lewis for an evening celebration.
Council leader, councillor Teresa O’Neill said: "This was a real extravaganza of family entertainment and community spirit at its best.
"I am thrilled that so many turned out to offer their enthusiastic support
She added: "It was a wonderful occasion which will live on in the minds of all those who were a part of it for years to come."
