Career high: Earning her first cap in November 2008 after playing the sport for only five months.
Sporting background: Kathryn’s rise to the Team GB is remarkable because she only took up the sport four years ago having previously been a basketball player.
She got involved in handball thanks to the Sporting Giants campaign, which specifically appealed for tall girls over 5ft10”, and within six months was playing the sport competitively in Denmark.
She says: We can try and be competitive at 2012 and then the sport has got to catch on here because it is an indoor sport and it is raining always in England.
Now I play it I cannot understand why handball isn’t as big here as everywhere else.
We say: Britain will need all the support they can get from the home crowd if they are to progress as the sport is extremely popular abroad.
