STUMPED for a summer vacation idea? Soon you may be able to rent a holiday chalet in Charlton.
Plans are afoot to turn a brownfield site sandwiched between the back of Fairthorn Road properties and a freight railway line into a row of 10 holiday chalets.
The application, by a couple who own the site, would also see an 'urban orchard' developed there, with dwarf fruit trees planted, a chicken coop and greenhouse for fish and vegetables.
Chalets, arranged in pairs, would be self-contained, including a shower, kitchenette and bedroom looking over a courtyard.
Previously, the site has been used as a timber yard and storage facility, while proposals to convert it into student accomodation, a house and commercial units have all proved unsuccessful.
The project has been likened by the applicants to the glamourous camping, or 'glamping', trend.
No date has yet been set for a planning decision.
