Lucky theatregoers will get to see exciting new comedy sketches and one man shows before they hit Endinburgh Festival this year.

All this week some of London’s most talented entertainers will by showcasing their festival material from the intimate setting of Brockley Jack Studio Theatre.

Tonight (July 23) features work from one of The Jack's very own.

David Bottomley runs writing workshops at the theatre and is set to perform his Edinburgh-bound show Message in a Bottle: A 70th Birthday Salute this evening.

The literary manager told Vibe: “It’s a one man show with a cast of hundreds.

“I play at least 10 different characters who have been influential in my life.

“It’s my tribute to Desert Island Discs.

“I’m usually helping other people to develop their plays so it has been a luxury to develop my own.”

David, who is playing his mum, Ivor Novello and a camp dancer called Ronnie to name a few, encouraged people not to miss out on Edinburgh Fringe Acts at The Jack this week.

He added: “Edinburgh Festival is a little bit like the Olympics for actors and comedians.

“A lot of these acts have performed at The Jack before so they’ll be familiar faces.

“This is a chance to catch what you’d expect to see in Edinburgh, it’s a good platform for the acts.”

Wednesday features a double bill of comedy starting with stand-up Chris McCausland and climaxing with Liam Mullone.

This taboo-bending comic romps through intloerance, racism, fascism and the man from Defra who tried to confiscate his stuffed toys because they were “full of alien species”.
