GREENWICH Council's leaders have continued their tradition of secrecy by banning questions from their next meeting - claiming to be too busy with the Olympics.

The council, regularly blasted by critics for lack of transparency, was due to hold a full meeting on Wednesday (July 25), when the public and opposition could put questions to cabinet members as usual.

But questions have been dropped from the agenda and the meeting was brought forward to tomorrow (July 24).

The move was criticised by Greenwich Conservatives, coming when many people will have questions about the borough's Olympic events.

Instead, an extra meeting will be held on September 25, long after the Games end.

A council spokesman said changes were made after discussions between the council leader and Conservative leader.

He said: "It reflects the proximity of the meeting to the opening of Olympic Games and the commitments members may have due to the exceptional circumstances of the borough co-hosting the Games."
