BEXLEY has seen London’s largest reduction in the number of people killed or seriously injured in road crashes.
Figures released by Transport for London and the Department of Transport show 49 people were killed or seriously injured last year compared to 68 in 2010.
The borough's child cyclist casualties fell by 64 per cent and the number of child cyclists killed or seriously injured fell by 100 per cent - putting Bexley top of the seven south-east London boroughs.
Bexley’s spokesman for the Transport Users Sub Committee, Councillor Graham D'Amiral, said: "Our aim is to prevent injuries and deaths on the road by educating children about road safety from a young age.
"The comprehensive programme of road safety education we provide aims at making it practical and engaging for children throughout their school life.
"This will hopefully help them to retain the key messages and put them into practice."
