MUM of four Samantha Sees has climbed two mountains over the last year – the first was surviving breast cancer, the second was Ben Nevis.
“The cancer was nothing compared to the climb,” said Samantha. “It was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done in my life.”
But Sam, 44, who made the climb on July 14/15 to raise about £800 for the Freddie Farmer Foundation, is already planning to climb Snowdon next year! She said: “The path wasn’t as far from the sides as I expected it to be, and when you get to the top it’s a 200-foot drop. But, with my husband Kevin with me, it was a really special time. I can’t really express how I felt but I’m really glad I did it.
“I’m not going to make out it wasn’t hard, there were times I wanted to give up. But Kevin willed me all the way. He lost his mum some months ago and I didn’t know but he took her cross up there. It was all very emotional.
“I’m doing Snowdon next year as the second stage of the clearance from breast cancer. Then I’ll climb somewhere else to celebrate the third stage the following year.
“I did it for Freddie’s charity but it was also to make people aware there’s life after being diagnosed with breast cancer. Just keep going!”
Sam, who lives in Eltham, is great friends with Freddie’s mum, Deanne, who said: “Sam is so brave and we’re all so proud of her and Kevin. The charity has been a big success thanks to all the wonderful friends and supporters we have like them.”
The Freddie Farmer Foundation, a registered charity, was formed last year to set up a specialised physiotherapy centre in SE London for children and young people with cerebral palsy and serious mobility problems. Freddie Farmer was born at 28 weeks with cerebral palsy, weighing just 2lb 12oz.
