YOUNGSTERS across Bexley are encouraged to keep reading during the summer holidays by joining this year’s Summer Reading Challenge.
Offered at all Bexley Council libraries, this year’s challenge is based around The Story Lab, a fictional hi-tech literary headquarters that distributes stories across the globe.
The story goes that children must recover lost items from the lab by reading at least six books, collecting rewards and getting closer to the lost items with each book they read.
Bexley Council cabinet member for leisure Councillor Don Massey said: “This year's Summer Reading Challenge forms part of the 2012 Cultural Olympiad, so it’s fitting it will draw on traditional stories from across the world.
“This is great news for parents and carers, who can just pop down to their local library and help their children discover a love of stories this summer.”
The challenge started on Saturday (July 14) and runs until 9 September.
