Father-of-four Musa Ahmet, 47, is charged with one count of possessing information likely to be useful to a terrorist contrary to Section 58 of the Terrorism Act 2000.
He is also charged with possessing a 16mm mini flare launcher without a firearms certificate.
Ahmet appeared at City of Westminster Magistrates' Court via video link from Belmarsh prison today, along with three other men including the first Briton to be charged with receiving training for terrorism.
Yassin Mutegombwa, 22, of Upper Norwood, is charged with three counts of receiving training for terrorism, a new offence contrary to section 6 of the Terrorism Act 2006.
Hassan Mutegombwa, 20, also from Upper Norwood, is charged with one count of procuring funds for terrorism contrary to section 15 of the Terrorism Act 2000.
Mustafa Abdullah, 24, of Stockwell, is charged with one count of possessing information likely to be useful to a terrorist.
District Judge Caroline Tubbs ordered all four men to return to court for a committal hearing on October 24.
There were no applications for bail from any of the defendants.
The four were arrested after a series of raids across London on September 1 including a Chinese restaurant in Borough and Ahmet's house in Eltham.
Ahmet, who has a beard and shaved head, wore blue jeans, a white T-shirt and a light blue tracksuit top for today's brief hearing.
The other three men wore red prison regulation tracksuits. All four spoke only to confirm their names and ages.
