A CONSORTIUM of bowls clubs has secured £40,000 of Olympic legacy funding.
Danson Park Bowls Consortium consists of five clubs- Danson Park Mens, Danson Park Ladies, Danson Park Blind, Kingfisher and Bexley Vets.
The money was awarded by Sport England’s Inspired Facilities Fund and will be used for replacing the concrete ditches supporting the two lawn bowling greens.
Without this work the greens will become impossible to use for bowls, as the current ditches are crumbling causing subsidence to the surfaces.
Treasurer of the consortium, Paul Hoffman, said: "The support and award from Sport England’s Inspired Facilities fund will enable us to continue with our commitment to encourage and introduce our sport to all the community of Bexley which is already enjoyed by many hundreds of bowlers on our greens."
Bexley Council's cabinet member for leisure,Councillor Peter Catterall, said: "By securing this funding there will be a fantastic Olympic legacy in our borough for years to come.
"Lawn bowling can be enjoyed by people of all ages and backgrounds. What a great way to really see the Olympic values come to life in Bexley."
