Great musical and community spirit, great variety, great Kentish backdrops - these have always been hallmarks of the Medway Jazz Festival, now under the medjazz Waterfront Festival imprint.
And what a time the punters have been having this past week as they move between venues in the Rochester and Chatham area.
Snowboy and the Latin Section and Tina May headed the star-studded opening and the final three days could scarcely be more vibrantly varied: At Chatham's Brook Theatre there's the dancefloor vibe of the Jive Aces tonight (Friday) and the very funky Badbone & Co led by award-winning trombonist Dennis Rollins on October 1.
At Rochester Cathedral tomorrow (Saturday) you'll have to move fast for a ticket for the miraculous Acoustic Triangle. This trio play a fusion of jazz and classical music and specialise in cathedrals and large churches precisely because of their spacious acoustic.
The band seem to be on constant tour, deservedly so. Each of the three musicians is well-known individually at the contemporary end of jazz music: bassist Malcolm Creese, pianist Gwillym Simcock and saxophonist Tim Garland, who did his initial music studies at college on Tonbridge.
