Young people from schools and youth organisations in Bexley norough will tell the stories of children who are given new hope and practical support by the Children's Society.

Children who are disabled, children in trouble with the law, young refugees, and boys and girls at risk on the streets have all been given a new start in life.

Younger and older people from many local churches are holding a Songs of Praise service at 6pm on Saturday, September 30 at Christ Church, Bexleyheath, to celebrate 125 years of the Children's Society's groundbreaking work.

Reverend Francis Jakeman, the Area Dean of Bexley, will welcome everyone to Christ Church, which will be full of photographs and exhibitions, and everyone is welcome to join in well-known hymns as well as praying for the children and for the Children's Society.

Reverend Martin Field, national fundraising director, will share the Childrens Society's vision of a better world for children, and speak about the society's work, including the Good Childhood Inquiry, which is asking: "What makes for a good childhood?"

This two-year project, launched this month by the Archbishop of Canterbury, will include young people and children as well as parents and carers, policy makers and experts.

This Songs of Praise has been organised by the local Children's Society support group.
