A SURVEY is under way in Welling to find out people's views on a traffic management scheme which has proved controversial since day one.
The scheme, in Okehampton Crescent, where Bexley Council installed built-out kerbs, bollards and traffic islands two years ago, has been blamed for a series of accidents.
Almost from the day the work was finished, News Shopper was inundated with letters of protest.
Now the new Tory council has agreed to review the scheme and ward councillors Joe Pollard, Matthew Scott and Ray Sams began a doorstep survey of residents last week to get their views, experiences and suggestions.
They will be going back to speak to those residents who were not in and everyone will be given an explanatory letter and a survey form to return to the council.
Among the options being put to residents are keeping the present scheme, installing speed cameras, road humps or speed cushions and creating width restrictions or road crossings.
People are also being asked for their own ideas to control speed in the road.
