A SUMMER reading challenge has been enjoyed by more than 6,000 children.
Organised by libraries across the borough, The Reading Mission saw 22,000 books read by four to 12-year-olds in Bromley during the school summer holidays.
Youngsters who signed up to the challenge were given personal folders with stickers and other incentives to chart their progress.
To complete the challenge, each child had to read six books before being presented with a certificate.
Ian Dodds, development manager for Bromley Library's archive and museum service, said: "The summer reading challenge has a positive effect on children's reading skills, opens up their reading choices and motivates them to read for pleasure."
