NAME:
Kelly Anderson
AGE:
28
COURSE:
Indian head massage
WHERE?
Blackheath
PERIOD:
Three days
Entry onto the course:
No qualifications are needed.
Reasons for choosing the course:
I became interested in massage after working as a holiday rep for eight years. It was such a high-energy job I was looking for a calmer alternative. I used to see girls on the beach giving head massages and thought it looked very relaxing.
Areas the course covers:
You are taught how to assess a client and all about the benefits of the treatment and of course the technique. Indian head massage is excellent for treating anxiety conditions, particularly insomnia.
The other students:
Sometimes the course is one-to-one but I was in a group of five of varying ages and backgrounds. The oldest was 78 - she was a lady who wanted to give relief to her husband who was suffering from migraines. Another man wanted to take what he had learnt to the Costa del Sol and a single mum wanted to learn to massage her child to encourage clear thinking at school.
Atmosphere:
Very relaxing and very friendly. The day started at 9am and finished at 5.30pm. The tutor, Gaye, was lovely and gave me some contacts to follow-up. She gives you on-going support after the course finishes.
The future:
I am working at a Chinese herbalist in Sidcup now - freelance - called Acuherbal but in January I am looking forward to taking head massages into businesses.
