DEAF children at a primary school have been helping to improve the environment by planting 60 trees.

The event was held in preparation for celebrating the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee next year.

Staff from Barclays Bank joined 22 pupils, aged three to 11, from the Hearing Impairment Provision (HIP) at Pelham School, in Pelham Road, Bexleyheath.

Together they planted a variety of trees on the school field and in a number of pots within a sensory garden.

Claire Whittington, who runs HIP, said: "The children have achieved so much more than just planting trees for the Queen and the school.

"Their communication and team work on the day was superb and I am so proud of the work that they put into their assembly to the rest of the school.”
