ELDERLY and disabled people have been demonstrating the problems they have if they want to travel to London from Barnehurst station.

Bexleyheath and Crayford MP David Evennett visited the Barnehurst Road station with residents to see the difficulties in trying to negotiate the footbridge to reach the London-bound platform.

He said: "A lot of money has been spent on refurbishing the ticket office but unfortunately the problems facing the London-bound platform have yet to be resolved."

Southeastern Railway, which has just taken on the franchise to run the stations, has announced a £2.85m programme towards meeting its obligations under the Disability Discrimination Act.

It is proposing to create ramps to the footbridge. But as a regular user of the station, Mr Evennett has written to the company to suggest it upgrades an existing path from the ticket office to access the London platform.
