MORE than 1,300 pupils took part in a three-day sports event at an Army barracks.
Children from 43 primary schools took part in sporting activities and mental agility challenges laid on by the Army at the Royal Artillery Barracks, Ha Ha Road, Woolwich.
It culminated last Saturday when the gates were thrown open to the public to come and try their hand at games from rugby to Kabadi - a South Asian team sport.
People got the chance to question councillors and Greenwich Council's sport chiefs about the 2012 Olympics and offer their ideas.
The event was organised by Greenwich Leisure Ltd, Charlton Athletic, the Army and the council.
The barracks will be one of the three main venues in the borough to host sports in the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics.
Greenwich Council leader Chris Roberts said: "When the time comes, this borough will host seven Olympic and Paralympic sports.
"The three-day sportathon has been the most ambitious celebration to date of our young people's sporting achievements in the run-up to the 2012 London Games."
