CHILDREN dug deep to try and beat other year groups by collecting two pence pieces.
Our Lady's Catholic Primary School, King Edward Avenue, Dartford, held the contest to raise funds for classroom equipment.
For two weeks pupils bought in two pence coins and put them in buckets left in every classroom. Each group's buckets were then weighed.
Year 2 was crowned the winner and awarded the £290 raised from the collection.
The money will be used to pay for Christmas craft equipment.
A parent-teacher association spokesman said: "Thank you to all the children, parents, grandparents, aunties and uncles and everyone else who helped raise such a fantastic amount from the two pences."
