A NEW chief harbour master has been appointed by the Port of London Authority (POLA).
David Snelson will take up his post at London River House, Royal Pier Road, Gravesend, in January.
Mr Snelson is currently serving as a rear admiral in the Royal Navy and has also worked for the Ministry of Defence (MoD).
He has been in commanded of many ships, including aircraft carrier HMS Ark Royal.
He has held the post of Commander UK Maritime Forces and been the Director of Naval Staff and Director of Naval Operations at the MoD.
Mr Snelson will take over from Bruce Richardson, who will retire in December after 12 years as chief harbour master.
PLA chairman Simon Sherrard said: "I am delighted David Snelson will be joining us as our chief harbour master. He will bring extensive knowledge and leadership experience."
