FESTIVAL time is still with us and Riverfront Jazz presents its 21st annual Greenwich bash, with events running throughout the town until October 1.
Many leading local musicians make frequent appearances, joined on occasions by nationally famed figures such as Don Rendell and two of the year's British Jazz Award winners: clarinettist Julian Marc Stringle and guitarist Dominic Ashworth.
In fact, Ashworth is among the high-profile list of jazz tutors from the town's Trinity College of Music who will take the stage at the Yacht Tavern this Sunday afternoon.
Much of the musical intensity seems to be centred on one of Greenwich's weekly jazz venues, the Lord Hood in Creek Road, where a huge melee of musicians share shifts in the spotlight from midday until midnight this Saturday and September 30.
Many of us will have in our thoughts the memory of one of the festival's two main organisers, Sandra Silk, who sadly died at the end of August. It's largely thanks to Sandra's heroically careful and caring advance preparation and to that of her husband, Dave Silk, that the festival remains as a happy annual fixture.
