It’s always difficult to put up with the ‘in between stage’ when you’re trying to grow out a fringe, go back to your roots or wave bye, bye to your pixie crop – the great news is, this season’s trends allow you to do just that. Jed Hamill from GWI tells us more...

On the fringe

Growing out a fringe can be an real pain, but this season you’re in good company as long ‘bangs’ are perfectly on trend.

Look for inspiration in the likes of Kimberley Walsh, Kirsten Dunst and everyone’s favourite style icon, Sienna Miller.

Worn in a centre or side parting, long ‘bangs’ or side sweeping fringes are super cool and well on trend for all of the 1970s gear hitting the high streets.

Going for a dip

We’ve all done it. You wanted that sun-kissed look for the summer months, had a few highlights through at the beginning of spring and several appointments later you’re slightly blonder than you would like for winter.

The good news is that 2011 is the year of the dip dyed look. Roots are where it’s at right now, just look at Alexa Chung, Rachel Bilson and Lauren Conrad – three very trendy ladies.

You can grow out that colour and look great doing it. To tone down your blondeness ask your colourist to weave in some of your natural colour. There’s never been a better time to go back to your roots.

Top of the crops

Growing out your crop a la Emma Watson is so in style. The timing of your haircut is important as short hair usually needs a trim more often but you need to leave enough time between appointments to let your old style grow out.

Aim to go for every other appointment you usually would. For example, if you would go for a cut every 4-6 weeks then go every 8-12 weeks.

The great news is that the boy crop, also known as the ‘bop’ is so ‘in’ right now. Styled shabby and textured, curly on top or Liza Minnelli sleek there’s a look to suit you. Keep that crop in check with Tweek Shaping Soufflé (£8.70 for 75ml) from Clynol’s Style range.
