TEENAGERS across Bromley borough have been celebrating their exam success, with some schools recording their best-ever GCSE results.
The national pass rate is 69.8 per cent A* to C with many Bromley schools equalling this or getting much better.
Bishop Justus
Bishop Justus School improved its GCSE results for the third year in a row with 83 per cent of its pupils achieving five A* to C grades.
Outstanding results at the school included Hannah Dowling (nine A* and two As), Stephen Folkes (seven A* and four As), Charlotte Nimmo (seven A* and three As), Benjamin Thomas (seven A* and three As), Rebecca Cordingley (seven A*, two As and one B) and Emma Wilding (six A* and five As).
And the school’s headteacher Kathy Griffiths said: “We are delighted with this year’s achievement.
“We would like to congratulate all our students on their individual success and recognise the hard work of all concerned.
“They are now very well placed for the future”
St Olave’s
St Olave’s is celebrating its best ever year for GCSE results with 87 per cent at A* and A, and 100 per cent getting five GCSEs at A* to C including maths and English.
Twelve pupils at the school got 11 or more A*s with star performer Sudhir Balaji getting 13 A* grades.
The school’s headteacher Aydin Onac said: “Students and staff have worked hard for these results with strong support from parents.
“We can all be proud of the boys’ achievements and look forward to their on-going success as they enter the sixth form.
“These results come on top of last week’s excellent A-level results which put St Olave’s as the fifth best state school in the country.”
Langley Park School for Boys
At Langley Park School for Boys the A* to C pass rate was 92.5 per cent, with 77.8 per cent getting A* to C including Maths and English.
Bromley High School for Girls
And at Bromley High School for Girls, 41.5 per cent of this year’s GCSE entries were awarded the top A* grade.
Eighty per cent of all grades were A or A* and 97 per cent were A*, A and B.
Thirty-three girls scored 10 A or A* grades and Alanood Sinjab, Emily Thomas and Ellie Goodman got all A*s.
Bromley High’s headteacher Louise Simpson said: “We are absolutely delighted for every one of our Year 11 girls – with A* and A grades across the board for so many and such great scores in so many subject areas we could not be happier.
“Every single one of them has worked exceptionally hard and supported by their families and teachers, have really done themselves proud.
“For some of them the hardest part about today is deciding which A levels to choose.”
Hayes School
Record breaking GCSE results are a fitting end to Hayes School’s outstanding year.
Ofsted recognised the school as outstanding back in March and last Thursday the Year 11 pupils showed why the inspectors came to this conclusion.
Ninety-two per cent of them received at least five A* to Cs, with 76 per cent with five A* to Cs including English and maths.
There were records set for A* and A passes with more than one in every three entries achieving this grade, with one in every 10 entries achieving an A*.
Thirty students achieved 10 or more passes at A or A*.
Headteacher Kieran Osborne said: “Congratulations go to our very hardworking and talented students who have been fantastically supported by their teachers and parents. “We look forward to welcoming students into our sixth form where they can continue their academic success.
“In a year when we have been recognised as outstanding by Ofsted, it is fitting that we should have our highest GCSE results. “Students, their parents and our staff can be truly proud of these outstanding results.”
He added: “We have more than 60 per cent of our students achieving all A*-B grades and 92 per cent achieving five A*-C grades.
“ These figures will be even higher next year.”
Charles Darwin School
Charles Darwin School is celebrating its best ever results with 61 per cent of its pupils achieving five GCSEs at A* to C, including English and maths.
And more than 90 per cent of the students got five grade C GCSEs which is the minimum requirement to enable them to stay on until the sixth form at the school.
Deputy headteacher Mick Boyden said: “As ever, this is a credit to the hard work of our students and the dedication and professionalism of the staff here at Charles Darwin School.
“Students of all abilities have been well-supported and achieved some great results and there have been some outstanding performances from some of our most able students: Chloe Papandreou achieved four A* and four As, Nick Walpole achieved seven As and one A* and Jessica King achieved six As and one A*.”
Newstead Wood School for Girls
At Newstead Wood School 100 per cent of the students achieved A* to C, including English and maths, at GCSE.
Three of the girls got A* in all of their subjects and 14 of them achieved A* in 10 or more of their subjects.
And in electronics, food technology, music and religious studies more than 90 per cent of pupils got an A* or A grade.
The headteacher Elizabeth Allen said: “Many congratulations are due to all Newstead students on their superb GCSE results.
”This year Newstead students achieved an average points score of 673.04, the equivalent of over 11 A* grades per student. 82 per cent of all full GCSEs were A or A*.
“Congratulations and thanks are also due to our expert specialist staff and to our most supportive parents.”
Farringtons School
Farringtons School’s overall pass rate was 90 per cent at A* to C with 80 per cent achieving at least five GCSEs at grade A* to C, including English and maths.
The headteacher Catherine James said: “I am absolutely thrilled with the results, some of our pupils achieved beyond our expectations and everyone should be proud of what they have achieved, an outstanding set of results for outstanding pupils.”
Darrick Wood School
Darrick Wood School was very pleased with its record results with 93.4 per cent of the pupils getting five GCSEs at A* to C.
Sydenham High School
And Sydenham High School is also celebrating its best ever results with an average of 10 GCSEs per student and two-thirds of all subjects graded A* or A.
The school’s headteacher Kathryn Pullen said: ‘I am delighted with the girls’ achievements and congratulate them on this outstanding performance as well as thank both parents and teaching staff for their commitment to supporting our students. ”There’s been extra excitement today as girls’ have come in to collect their results and been able to see the new sixth form block taking shape that will be completed in the autumn term.”
The Priory School
The Priory School also got good results with 98 per cent of Year 11 getting at least five GCSEs at grade C or better and 65 per cent achieving five GCSEs at A* to C, including maths and English.
Headteacher Nick Ware said: “I am absolutely delighted with the results we achieved this year at GCSE.
“The achievement is outstanding and demonstrates our commitment to ensuring all students, who attend The Priory School, achieve their full potential.
“There were many outstanding individual performances, with eight students achieving ten or more A*/A grades, George Ryan alone achieved twelve A*/A grades.
“I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all of our students on their success as well as thank all the teachers for their dedication and hard work in helping these young people succeed.”
